A note from Andrew:
I never imagined Gezelligheid would become such a tradition. It all began in a crowded bar in Amsterdam on a frigid night in February when a woman squeezed in next to me and said “oh gezellig!” The closest translation of that word would be cozy, or the pursuit of those things which get us through the darkness. We’ve taken the concerts to both coasts, in churches and synagogues, but it always comes back home to Chicago. There are a few constants: the 4th Presbyterian church on Michigan Ave, Ian Schneller’s horn sculptures, and lights by Ryan Murphy, but the music changes from year to year and is best summed up as whatever feels right. An new ongoing project of mine called Echolocations is an extension of gezelligheid where I “play to the room” whether it be a canyon in Utah or a 18th century aqueduct in Lisbon. Anyway, this is a special thing that stands apart from making records and touring. I look forward to it every year.
The video for Andrew’s cover of The New Pornographers tune ‘Fake Headlines’ premiered with Pitchfork this morning. Take a look at the song and video, recorded for Yellow Bird Project‘s ‘Good People Rock’ compilation album, out April 14th.

“Acting on a tip from a musician friend who had said this place had extraordinary acoustics, Tyler and I went there on a lark. We hiked for 6 hours (because we went the wrong way) and scaled a 200 ft cliff. We were not disappointed.”
NOWNESS has the exclusive premiere of Andrew’s experimental journey into the canyons of Utah, first in the five part ‘Echolocation’ series directed by Tyler Manson.
